Well, the guy who’s helped me for the last 7 years, Ivan, found a barn owl juvenile on the road outside our gate. I was so EXCITED to think, “I get to rehab it!” I love owls and think all birds of prey are regal and mystical. Further, Seans father, Jheri Redding loved owls and used to collect owl figurines. He said, “Owls guard your money.” When I saw this little downy figure Ivan had in his hands I squealed and grabbed ahold of it (with no regard for safety!). It had nasty claws and some feathering but was still flightless. I did a ton of research and SADLY discovered that rehab facilities won’t even take them because they do not release well. This means the cost it takes to rehab these angels is lost because only about 30 % will live after release. Further, Barn Owls are the most common owl and so not really worth the effort in terms of “Cost benefit ratio.” NONE of this mattered to me. I have giant flight pens AND a plethora of rats in my barn. OWLS require rats or mice everyday and these cannot be frozen… must be fresh or thawed. It sounded like a “no brainer” with the amount of rats I know we have. Oh, boy, NOW, 3 weeks later, the realization has set in. Every single night, I go “rat hunting” for “Ivan the female owl” so she can have fresh meat. At first, I was squeamish and freaked out about killing rats with a stake and my hands. NOW, nope, I am seriously driven to support this little girl. I feel like a mamma just doing her duty. It is amazing how the motherly instinct kicks in when we have to take care of a baby,
Well, now, my girl is completely flighted but still requires my ability to hunt for her. Soon, she will move to the giant flight pens I have. Once acclimated, I will open the door so she can come and go as she pleases. I am hoping she won’t be a statistic, but will live the remainder of her life at Namaste Farms (they can live upwards of 20 years).
Oh, and just to let you know; those rats in her cage… yes, I hunted for my girl.

May 22, 2013 at 7:59 am I have work to do but am getting sidetracked. It is all Lace's fault... lol, she made me love Border Collies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii1WnS_qa7g
I've had three Border Collies, a Malamute/Shepard and two Labs and all I've loved. I have to say that my BC's were so intelligent and eager to please. I had a champion BC with Scottish blood lines named Storm (Blue Merrill) and she brought me so much joy and happiness. If I went swimming, she would…

This 1955 Disney Feature is an awesome dog video. There aren't a lot of the special effects that you see in today's dog videos.
May 22, 2013 at 7:33 am I was looking for a leg cleek to hook my lambs and someone in Wales uses this: It is a Carp. Pretty smart.
May 21, 2013 at 7:04 pm Making yarn. This is one Knottynaomi Spins loved... it is selectively auto wrapped with copper thread.
I was messing around and asked an online psychic this, "Does Scrappy really love me?" This is the answer;
"Without a doubt. What you want to happen is about to happen! Get ready for your dreams to come true!"
I guess this means I'm marrying my dog.

Need my shepherd friends help... doe with blue bag, removed the udder, looks super good, have a problem with maggots. Gave her a shot of dectomax thinking that could help, and we fly spray every single day. I don't want to pack it and cover it because it is healing super well... ideas? We are talking about a wound the size of my entire palm... tissue is all healthy and beautiful.

May 18, 2013 at 7:15 pm Here is your name sake, "Kimberly the Bottle Fed Goat." Remember, she was raised inside with our dogs and thinks Lace is playing with her, not herding her. She cracks me up.
May 18, 2013 at 3:12 pm Lace realized that biting his head was dangerous and now, takes ahold of his shoulder when he tries to hit her. That's a mouthful of mohair she has. Of course, photo by Knottynaomi Spins!
May 18, 2013 at 3:01 pm Scrappy holding the flock. He is so good... (what you can't see is Lace is actually doing the work, she's just not in the picture.) Awesome photography from Knottynaomi Spins.
May 18, 2013 at 2:41 pm This is one of my favorite pictures ever... Knottynaomi Spins does it again. I work Scrappy everyday now and he loves it. Both are powered by OH Kruse Show Feeds.

May 17, 2013 at 7:00 pm This is one of the most honest interviews i've read. I wondered why Cesar is no longer filming "Dog Whisperer." I do believe in Cesar's methods based on my experience with my flight animals (and my predatory ones). Further, Cesar airs on the same network my show will be on... please have respect, and even if you don't agree with his methods, I would appreciate you not commenting negatively. I am trying to share with you an honest and very heartfelt interview by a man who's had positive impact on my life. http://www.mensjournal.com/magazine/rescuing-dog-whisperer-cesar-millan-20130207
The world knew Cesar Millan as the 'Dog Whisperer' – the man who understood everything about the canine mind. But when it came to humans, he had a lot to learn.

Athena the Godess walks with you!!!!We Russians believe That owls bring money to your home ,we keep figurines. She is lovely! I wish I could experience something like this once in my life!!
i hope she’ll keep your farm as a homebase!
Nomes, you’re my girl! I miss you a lot and appreciate how much you do for me and Namaste Farms. I feel really lucky to have met you.
Natalie,
Can you give us an update on Ivan the Owl? I would have done exactly the same thing – find a way to keep it alive and return it to the wild when it was ready. Also thank you for all the inspiration to try new things as a spinner! I’m a beginner with big aspirations and you make me think about dyeing and spinning in a whole new wonderful way. Thank you and namaste!
Sorry, just found this. I actually left Ivan’s cage open yet still gave him/her food everyother day i.e. fresh rabbit or squirrel. One day, Ivan just never came back. I still wonder if I will see Ivan again.
